What kind of career searcher are you?
If you identified with B or C above, you are probably already exploring or searching for a new career path. Levels of success varies, but you can enhance your success if you understand your approach.
Lottery approach – you scroll ads and occasionally make an application to something you think you might fancy. It’s not strategically planned, you are going for a lucky dip – if you get it, great – but the odds are less favourable.
Dynamite approach – you scroll ads and blast your CV out far and wide. You apply for almost everything and anything. It’s a numbers game – you think if you apply for more, you increase your odds – but it is not focused.
U-turn approach – you scroll ads and apply to roles within a specific field. You are focused but not strategic. If you don’t get results, you switch to applying for roles in another field. You change focus rather than change strategy.
Strategic approach – you filter ads to focus applications within the field you know is right for you. Your skill set and goals are aligned. You can tailor your application and re-brand yourself to give creditability to your career change. It is very likely to lead to a successful new path.
If you are a teacher or school leader seeking a possible career change, it is not the case of simply scrolling through ads. Anyone can find a job this way but that is not what you are looking for – you want the RIGHT new career path.
